NMC PREPARES to CELEBRATE TRIO DAY
NMC’s Student Services is coordinating an array of activities in honor of TRIO DAY. A day will be set aside to celebrate the success of TRIO Programs in the CNMI. TRIO programs include the Upward Bound Program, Educational Talent Search and Student Support Services. These programs are federally funded and aim to motivate and prepare students to complete high school and continue on to college. The oldest program, Upward Bound, has existed in the CNMI since 1983. According to their Director, Ms. Marian Tudela, the program has been a huge success helping over 4,000 students (from low-income families or are first- generation college students) throughout their years in existence.

A Student Leadership Conference will be held on January 27th, Saturday, at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
On the 22nd of February, the Honorable Mayor, Mr. Juan B. Tudela, will sign a Proclamation at 9:00 a.m. in the Board of Regents Conference Room, declaring February 22-23 as TRIO day in the CNMI. On the same day (Feb. 22), Program Directors and students will appear on Power 99 to announce and promote TRIO Day. Each TRIO program will host an open house to the public on the 22nd . On the 23rd, Student Services will culminate the event with light refreshments throughout the day between Upward Bound and Talent Search.

For more information about these programs and events, please contact Talent Search Director, Ms. Debbie Diaz at 234-5498- ext. 2100, Ms. Marian Tudela at Upward Bound at ext. 1311 or Mr. Nick Benjamin at Student Support Services at ext. 1275.
